Falling in love with your best friend

We would like to highlight one of our Associate couples Mackenzie and Andy this week on the blog! They met in high school when she was a freshman and Andy was a sophomore. They were friends for years, but one of them always seemed to be dating someone else! Throughout their friendship, Andy would always jokingly say that he and Mackenzie were meant to be. He would even jokingly ask her to marry him!  They finally started dating in 2009 and the rest is history!

They are each others’ best friends and have been through half of their life. I guess Andy knew what he was talking about all along!

We absolutely loved working with Mackenzie and Andy and wish them all the best!

Congratulations!!

Caroline & Brandon

This week we are showcasing one of our most recent Signature films by Alex Karas. We absolutely loved shooting Caroline and Brandon’s beautiful wedding at The Renaissance Vinoy in St. Pete this past spring.

This stunning couple met back in college at a local bar. She was wearing a tutu and tiara for her friend’s themed birthday! Her friend began introducing Caroline to members of her friend’s fraternity. That’s when she first met Brandon and fell in love with his smile. At the end of freshman year, Brandon asked Caroline to be his girlfriend. They have been together ever since!

We had the opportunity to FaceTime and meet with this couple several times before the wedding and we really had the a lot of time to get to know their story. Their sincerity and love for each other is so obvious and we loved handcrafting a Signature film for such a wonderful couple. One of our biggest tips to our Signature clients is to take the time to meet with us so that we really can create something unique and special and that truly exemplifies each couples quirks and sentiments. Caroline and Brandon made an investment in our Signature film collection but it wasn’t just monetary- they took the time with us to help us do our job to the best of our ability. We want you to watch your film and say, “this is so US!!”

We hope you enjoy this film and the gorgeous photos from Kristen Weaver Photography! Congratulations Caroline and Brandon!

A Classic Wedding

We are thrilled to highlight Courtney and Brock on our wedding blog this week. This spectacular wedding is one of our Signature films shot by Voila owner, Alex Karas.

Courtney and Brock are both Florida natives who graduated from the University of Florida, but did not meet until after they graduated. They actually met years later at a Florida vs Georgia game. It was then that Brock worked his magic and landed a date with Courtney, which eventually lead to a proposal!

When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew right away it was going to take place in a coastal setting that had special significance to them as a couple. The Gasparilla Inn was the perfect venue!

This black tie wedding was nothing but flawless. Courtney took everyone’s breath away while walking down the aisle in a Vera Wang wedding dress. Brock didn’t look so bad himself in a Ralph Lauren tuxedo.

Sarah Fairbairn of One Fine Day made sure everything about the day was perfect, from the ceremony to the music to the details of the reception. The beautiful floral design, from Botanica, was a major scene setter in the reception tent. The classic ivory flowers and the vast amount of greenery really gave the reception a classic and clean feel.

We were honored to be a part of Courtney and Brock’s special day!

Amy & Sahil

Amy and Sahil met in Spring of 2011 when they both joined an intramural kickball league in New York City. He was a grad from NYU and captain of the team. She was a music major; her and a couple friends decided to join the team. Amy was first drawn to Sahil after he had sent the team a hilarious email. She loved his sense of humor and the two had instant chemistry! Amy and Sahil quickly realized they had the same unique personality, they fell in love and the rest is history!

We love shooting fusion weddings because it allows us to experience the traditional American wedding, as well as other cultural elements such as this one that incorporates Indian traditions. And, this one could not be more gorgeous! From the couple to the decor and design, it is exquisite!

We hope you enjoy this film and the gorgeous photos from our friend Kimberly of Kimberly Photography! Congratulations Amy and Sahil!

To “First Look” or Not to “First Look, that is the question

First Look: the official, and dramatic first reveal between the bride and groom in their formal wedding attire on their wedding day. In recent years, this has become a very popular wedding trend! Roughly 75% of our weddings include a first look. While opinions vary on the first look, it truly is a decision that needs to be made by each individual couple based on their ideas and traditions.

While some of our couples feel that this new trend ruins the “surprise” of the groom seeing the bride for the first time, others enjoy the intimacy of getting a private moment before the sometimes nerve- wracking ceremony.

When our couples are deciding if they will do a first look or not, we find that it is always interesting to hear why they choose to do (or not to do) this. The bride may say, “I think he may cry, so I want to wait for him to see me for the first time during the ceremony.” While the groom may respond, “I’d rather do a ‘first look privately IN CASE I DO cry!” One of the biggest cited reasons for having a first look is so that the couple can get their formal portraits done before the ceremony.

Whether you first look or don’t, we love capturing our couples seeing each other for the first time- be it down the aisle or in a breathtaking venue away from the crowds. Here are some couples that made some interesting decisions on whether to DO a first look or NOT to do a first look. Both options present their pros and cons- our only advise is to stick with what feels right to you! Watch while our brides and grooms decide what trends and styles work for their special day!
